    ICARUS Training and Support System

    Get PDF
The ICARUS unmanned tools act as gatherers, which acquire enormous amount of information. The management of all these data requires the careful consideration of an intelligent support system. This chapter discusses the High-Performance Computing (HPC) support tools, which were developed for rapid 3D data extraction, combination, fusion, segmentation, classification and rendering. These support tools were seamlessly connected to a training framework. Indeed, training is a key in the world of search and rescue. Search and rescue workers will never use tools on the field for which they have not been extensively trained beforehand. For this reason, a comprehensive serious gaming training framework was developed, supporting all ICARUS unmanned vehicles in realistic 3D-simulated (based on inputs from the support system) and real environments

    6D SLAM with GPGPU computation

Abstract: The main goal was to improve a state of the art 6D SLAM algorithm with a new GPGPU-based implementation of data registration module. Data registration is based on ICP (Iterative Closest Point) algorithm that is fully implemented in the GPU with NVIDIA FERMI architecture. In our research we focus on mobile robot inspection intervention systems applicable in hazardous environments. The goal is to deliver a complete system capable of being used in real life. In this paper we demonstrate our achievements in the field of on line robot localization and mapping. We demonstrated an experiment in real large environment. We compared two strategies of data alignment -simple ICP and ICP using so called meta scan

Companies with Foreign Participation in the Service Sector

The article attempts to outline the position of companies with foreign participation in the service sector in the transforming Polish economy in the period of on-going servicisation and globalisation of the late 1990s and early 2000s. The assessment was made on the basis of the number of entities, the resources of employed factors of production (personnel, assets), and the value of revenues. Their structure, dynamics and share in the nationwide potential, resources and revenues have been presented. The study does not contain an assessment of productivity and profitability. Results of the analysis point to an active involvement of companies with foreign participation in the processes of transformation and servicisation of the national economy. They are also an indication of those companies’ expansion into almost all sections of services (excluding education), especially in electricity, gas and water supply (although in this case the starting-point level was low), in telecommunications, in transport, in trade and in financial intermediation. As a result of this expansion, the relevant companies are ranking high among service market entities, making up one third of total revenues of firms keeping books of account. That figure is much higher than their share in the capital stock and, in particular, in the number of staff employed in the service sector, which indicates an advantage in terms of productivity but also sluggish (in fact declining) demand for manpower. The expansion of companies with foreign participation on the domestic service market was accompanied by transformations in the structure of their revenues, especially a rise in the share of transport and communication services and electricity, gas and water supply services to the disadvantage of trade

Revisiting the Taxonomy of <i>Cylapocoris</i> Carvalho, 1954 (Hemiptera: Miridae: Cylapinae) with Descriptions of Five New Species and Morphology-Based Phylogenetic Analysis of the Genus

This paper provides descriptions of five new species of the Neotropical genus Cylapocoris Carvalho, 1954 (C. bimaculatus n. sp., C. brooksi n. sp., C. carvalhoi n. sp., C. scutellatus n. sp., and C. simplexoides n. sp.). Cylapocoris and Cylapocoroides Carvalho, 1989 are redescribed and rediagnosed. Illustrations of male genitalia, scanning electron micrographs of selected structures of certain taxa, and an identification key to species are provided. Female genitalia are described and illustrated for the first time for Cylapocoris in nine out of 19 known species. A cladistic analysis of the genus, based on 62 morphological characters, is presented as a contribution to the understanding of relationships within Cylapocoris and its relationships with other groups of Cylapinae. The analysis comprises 16 ingroup species and 15 outgroup taxa. Both equal and implied weighting parsimony analyses were used in the phylogenetic reconstruction. We confirm the monophyly of Cylapocoris and its sister-group relationship with Cylapocoroides. Additionally, we identify subgroupings within Cylapocoris. Intertribal relationships within Cylapinae are briefly discussed

Kinetic Monte Carlo study of structural proton diffusion along a one-dimensional path

    No full text
We study the structural diffusion coefficient of protons in a chain-like system by the means of KMC simulations. To perform specific calculations, we adopted parameter values in our model that correspond to the benzimidazole crystal. As we have shown, the structural diffusion follows the Arrhenius-like thermal dependence with an effective activation energy of 2.01 eV

Changes in textural properties of Polan and Legenda cultivars of soybean seeds resulting from hydrothermal processing were analyzed. The seeds were subjected to treatment consisting of soaking them in water on 20ºC for 120 minutes and were taken out each time and were subjected to compression tests. During the process of soaking a decrease in the values of hardness and chewiness of soybean seeds occurs. Changes in hardness and chewiness of the Polan variety are described by means of the linear function. For every minute the values of hardness dropped by 1.71 N on the average, and of chewiness by 0.3 N. Changes in hardness and chewiness of the seeds Legenda variety were described by means of the exponential function. The coefficients of equations determined here suggest that for every minute there is a 2% reduction in hardness and a 4% reduction in chewiness
